Why have we built the Wat Kor Houses?
In the late 70s, when removing the Khmer regime, a young boy named Kim Nou frequently traveled to the Tonle Sap Lake to fish with other teenagers of the village. One day, while they were on their way to the lake, a wheel of their carriage broke. A family living nearby rushed to seek with them this special wood which is used to manufacture the trolley wheels. It is with a natural hospitality that the family invited all the boys to eat at their table once their problem solved. They met all together before a meal cooked and offered with love, as if they were all from the same family. Obviously, in rural Cambodia, mutual aid and conviviality are values that we share.
This memory belongs to Kim Nou, this young boy who is now one of the founders of the institution. At Maisons Wat Kor, it is important for everyone to perpetuate these values at the heart of Cambodian tradition, specifically in the province of Battambang.
That is why we are targeting a specific purpose at Maisons Wat Kor: Develop local expertise to ensure the direct redistribution of the economic benefits of our facility to the local population.
Despite the natural charm of Cambodia, it is worrying to see how our country tends to exchange the traditional style of our houses for a modernity that is similar to China's urban apartments. For this reason, the Wat Kor homes are built under the traditional architecture of our culture and our traditions. We want to encourage our visitors, who come from all over the world, to understand and protect the essence of our cultural baggage. We allow our guests to explore the Khmer food through a unique culinary experience. Our cuisine is inspired by family meals and we serve dinner every night in a comely hospitality.
Wat Kor Village has preserved over time beautiful authentic wooden houses, creating a rural atmosphere that is only possible to find in the countryside. Some local will tell you that the modern architecture of their houses looks more and more like Chinese trend: We agreed that the Wat Kor houses would reflect the Cambodian tradition, in all its greatness and its harmony with nature.
From architecture to nature, there is no doubt that the Wat Kor Houses were built on true values. The location of our hotel will seduce you with its enveloping beauty. As soon as you arrive in Wat Kor Village, you will feel at home.
Kantaing house is a type of house that is found everywhere in Cambodia, particularly on the edge of the Mekong River where established themselves most Chinese settlers.
